Supporting Parent Carers
Alongside my general counselling practice, I have a particular interest in supporting parent carers of children and adults with complex needs.
As a parent carer myself, I have a deep personal understanding of both the rewards and the challenges that come with this role, the love and pride, alongside the exhaustion, guilt, frustration, and isolation that can sometimes follow. This lived experience sits alongside my professional work, informing a compassionate and realistic approach.
For the past three years, I’ve also worked professionally with carers, offering emotional support and helping people navigate the ongoing pressures, uncertainty, and transitions that caring can bring. I understand how easy it can be to prioritise everyone else’s needs while losing touch with your own wellbeing, identity, and sense of self.
Counselling offers a space that is just for you, somewhere you can speak freely, feel understood, and explore your experiences without judgement. In our sessions, I aim to offer warmth, validation, and balance, supporting you to process difficult emotions, replenish emotionally, and find ways to care for yourself alongside your caring role.
Some parent carers find Walk and Talk Therapy particularly supportive, as it offers time and space away from daily responsibilities and a chance to talk while gently moving in nature. As a parent carer myself, I understand how difficult it can be to get outside, and this way of working can offer a gentle way to combine counselling, fresh air, nature, and movement within a single 50-minute session. You can read more about this option, including a short FAQ, on the Walk and Talk Therapy page.
If you’d like to know more or would like to arrange an initial session, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
